3-day interactive orientation program titled “Engineering Graphics – A Language of Engineers”

Engineering Graphics is a foundational course for all engineering disciplines, but is often challenging to learn, as it demands knowledge, imagination, visualisation, and drawing skills.

To address this, the Mechanical Engineering Department, Institute of Technology, and the Centre for Continuing Education, Nirma University, Ahmedabad, conducted a 3-day interactive orientation program titled “Engineering Graphics – A Language of Engineers” from 6th–8th May 2026. This was the 7th edition of the program.

The program aimed to help aspiring engineers understand the importance and applications of Engineering Graphics, familiarise them with drawing instruments, explain methodologies for preparing engineering drawings, and build visualisation skills through audio-visual aids and models.

Key topics covered included Introduction to Engineering Graphics, Projection of Points, Lines, Planes, and Solids, Orthographic and Sectional Orthographic Projection, and Isometric Projection. Concepts were explained using audio-visual aids, physical models, animated solutions, and sample references to improve clarity.

Participants appreciated the hands-on approach and found the use of models and animated solutions especially helpful for visualisation. Many stated that the program boosted their confidence and made complex topics, such as Isometric and Orthographic Projections, easier to grasp. Overall feedback was highly positive, with students requesting similar sessions for advanced topics.

The program was coordinated and conducted by Dr Anand S. PATEL, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
