The Department continuously endeavours to bridge the gaps between theoretical and practical knowledge through up-to-date curriculum and interdisciplinary learning environment. The overall development of students is ensured through various curricular and co-curricular activities. Department of Mechanical Engineering is ranked high on the priority list of engineering aspirants.

The faculty members of the Department are involved in research activities aligned with various areas in Mechanical Engineering discipline viz. Design Engineering, Materials Technology, Manufacturing Technology, Robotics and Automation, Stress Analysis, Thermo-fluid Systems, Energy Systems, etc. The faculty members are actively involved in delivering testing and consultancy services as well as industry specific training programmes to various eminent industries and organisations.

In its quest for excellence and continuous improvement, desire to evolve and stay abreast of the current trends, workshops, technical symposiums, training programmes, industrial visits, expert talks by eminent academicians/researchers/industry resource persons are regularly conducted. The students and faculty members of the Department are encouraged to take up live industrial projects and are provided with conducive environment to contribute towards research, preferably leading to societal benefits.

To be a centre of excellence in Mechanical Engineering that is recognised by the society for its outstanding education, research, and outreach programs, and is known for the high quality of its graduates.

  • To provide quality education to the students to cater to indigenous needs and make them competent mechanical engineers.
  • To establish linkages with academic institutes, research organisations and industries for mutual and societal benefits.
  • To conduct basic and applied research and to generate intellectual property.

The graduates of Mechanical Engineering Programme will have an ability:

  • To apply the concepts of material science and engineering, computer-aided engineering, thermal engineering and manufacturing technologies for design, development, analysis and maintenance of mechanical systems and processes.
  • To work as a professional and/or as an entrepreneur by applying mechanical engineering principles and management practices.
